All teachers at Goodnestone CoE Primary are dedicated to developing an innovative, fun and stimulating curriculum. Building on real life experiences which prepare them for later life.
The school follows the National Curriculum and Kent Local Authority guidance which is tailored to suit the children’s individual needs, incorporating assessment, pupil planning/voice and child led learning.
Teachers ensure detailed planning covers all learning objectives, skills and progress across all subjects.
We follow a creative curriculum through mixed aged classes. Therefore our program for each year changes to meet the needs of class structure and individual pupils.
We are proud to have been awarded the Gold Arts Mark award and the Quality Mark 4 from the Basic Skills Agency.
A copy of the planning for each class can be obtained via the classes website page.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework in the reception year and have recently updated our provision. We find that our mixed age classes ensure that the children experience a smooth transition as they move up through the school.
As a school we put great emphasis on teaching basic skills, reading, writing, phonics, number, calculation, thinking skills and leading own learning.
We follow Letters and Sounds as our school phonic scheme. We understand that not all children use phonics to support their development of reading and spelling and therefore will tailor planning to meet each child’s individual need.
Our main reading scheme is Oxford Reading Tree with a variety of styles and genre.
We are very privileged to have a highly skilled and knowledgeable staff. With the breadth of skills and experience within our small school we offer a wide range of support not only for the children but our parents and to other schools. We have a Specialist Mathematics Teacher who has a passion and drive for her role as maths leader and a skilled literacy leader who’s expertise has moved our reading and phonics to outstanding levels.
